Repurposed dream Play Kitchen--ABRIDGED

With
-- 2 weeks of full time work (not including accessorizing)
-- $100 budget
--A lot of love and hard work

I turned this baby changing table---

Into this--
This is the non-detailed version of the transformed dream kitchen. To view the very long and detailed transformation to create your own, please visit this original link.

A play kitchenette complete with stainless steel fridge! It was a birthday gift for my daughter. You can see her complete baking party here.

I couldn't afford a Pottery Barn version and wanted something made of wood and not plastic. Using the following blogs for inspiration I carried out my own dream. Thank you all for sharing your ideas!

The biggest inspiration. This kitchen is beautiful. You've probably already seen it from Crafting Chicks.

This is another beautiful vintage inspired kitchen. Beautiful photos and craftsmanship.

If you're on a smaller budget or space, these other examples are darling and very nicely done as well!

Here are some photos to show the process and transformation.

I measured, and measured, and measured some more, and envisioned and sketched and sat in front of the piece of furniture for what seemed like HOURS, day after day! Until I had the final design in my head and could go and purchase more wood and make cuts.

The long awaited finished product!

Now, the nitty gritty. The $.

  1. Wow Hannah! That is amazing. I am really impressed. I keep thinking a nice wooden one would be, but I don't really have the resources (still living in student housing) or know how to do something like that. I bet your daughter just loves it!

  4. Wow! I'm a total stranger - just came over from Ohbedoh (sp?) - but just had to say what an amazing job you did. That kitchen is gorgeous!
Feeling all inspired and away to see what I can chop up in our house to do somthing similar - the plastic one my daughter inherited is just too depressing!

  10. Ironically I have the same piece of furniture that you started with in my daughters room and was wondering what i was going to do with it now that she is almost 3... this looks like the perfect project to turn it into a kitchen instead of a clothes and paper catcher... thanks for the inspiration...
